Factors Associated with the Incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Padang Besi Urban Village, Lubuk Kilangan District, Padang City in 2026
xiv + 73 Pages, 12 Tables, 2 Figures, 13 Attachmaents
ABSTRACT
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Based on 2025 data from the Padang City Health Office, the DHF incidence rate (IR) was 56.8 per 100,000 population, with 542 cases and a case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.6%. The Lubuk Kilangan Community Health Center (Puskesmas) recorded the highest number of cases (64.2%), and Padang Besi Urban Village was among the areas that experienced fatalities due to DHF. This study aimed to identify factors associated with the occurrence of DHF in Padang Besi Urban Village, Lubuk Kilangan, Padang City, in 2026.
This was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted from March to August 2026, with data collection taking place between June 27 and July 9, 2026. The study population consisted of residents of Padang Besi Urban Village, with a sample size of 99 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires and observations using checklist sheets. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed using the chi-square test.
The results showed that 10.1% of respondents had a history of DHF within the past year, 40.4% exhibited poor "3M Plus" practices, 18.2% had inadequate water storage facilities, and mosquito larvae were found in the home environment of 13.1% of respondents. Significant associations were found between DHF occurrence and "3M Plus" practices (p-value = 0.014), water storage facilities (p-value = 0.002), and the presence of larvae (p-value = 0.000) in Padang Besi Urban Village, Lubuk Kilangan, Padang City.
It is concluded that these three factors are associated with the occurrence of DHF. It is recommended that the Community Health Center's (Puskesmas) Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) program regularly conduct public outreach regarding "3M Plus" practices, water storage containers, and the presence of mosquito larvae to prevent Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF).
